The Dark Knight Rises is finally out and the reviews are in, but does The Dark Knight Rises truly hold up to it’s own legacy? In short, Yes. After much anticipation and hype for this movie brought out an extraordinary turn out with estimated over $160 million in the box office over the weekend.

Note: My heart goes out to all those  affected during the shooting in Aurora  Colorado. No one should ever have to go through that. Movies are created so we can be immersed in the enjoyable stories, visuals and scores they contain within.

 Eight years after the murders committed by Harvey Dent and the tragedy of the Joker killings, Bruce Wayne goes into seclusion after he’s taken the blame, as Batman, for the most murders. Gotham is peaceful and The Dent Act keeps the mob at bay and in Blackgate prison. Bane, comes to Gotham to throw the city into chaos and destruction.

The plot of this film is similar to that of Batman begins but on a larger and somewhat on more epic scale. The story starts out in a really sombre tone and everything seems to function well with Batman in this sort of exile.  The characters in the film are very many. You don’t get a since of Bruce Wayne’s struggle once it gets to a certain point and some of the problems are resolved a little two fast. There is also too much story to fit into the story and runs sort of fast and have a lot of exposition towards the end, but finishes very strong.

Bane is a menacing bastard and pretty awesome as a character and really fun to watch. The chaos taking over the city comes pretty fast, you may get a bit of a sense that there is a lot going on that you don’t see. Bane’s voice is very understandable and not so understandable in parts.   Peace in the City was achieved due to a lie and the consequences come back full circle and Gotham is consumed because of it. Was it really a good idea? Joseph Gordon Levitt is a big surprise and a great addition to the movie. You are in for a few surprises.  Saline Kyle as Cat Woman, whom does an excellent job, stirs up a lot of shit. She’s sexy and kicks a lot of ass and she reverts back and forth from screaming damsel to methodical criminal. Her character’s range is admirable.

This epic is…epic.

Presentation

 Christopher Nolan has a standard when shooting a film. He doesn’t like to use CGI as much as a normal Hollywood film. The surprising amount of CGI in this film is quite big considering the new machine call “The Bat” and a few others that add to the film as a whole. I’m guessing that Christopher Nolan has thought that the imagery was too big to do practically. While nothing amazing, it does it’s job. Bane’s characterization is in his eyes. You can definitely feel that he’ll..well…break your face. Batman is out more during the day, for good reasons, which adds a sort of awe to the whole scenario.

Music

 This is typical Hans Zimmer affair. The music is epic and even grander sounding. However, it gets really loud really and easily overshadows some dialogue. Especially Bane’s dialogue. The Bane chant ( http://youtu.be/l1rW1ZphiKI ) is use quite fequently and somewhat abused. I felt like it comes a part of the normal score and adds nothing for awhile. A lot of the trilogies’ themes are reused a bit and you even hear a bit of Joker’s theme in there as well.  Overall, pretty typical and loud score coming from Hans Zimmer. He still puts forth a good performance  but could still approve upon it.

Verdict

This film was very enjoyable and a lot of fun. You’ll never get that bored feeling unless you..well..don’t like these kinds of films. It’s a fast paced 2 hours and 45 minutes so eat your popcorn and drink your drink with severe caution and bring a catheter. This movie is definitely a Blu-Ray worthy film and completes the trilogy with a satisfying ending to a satisfying franchise. This film has simply climbed into my top 10 movies of all time along with The Dark Knight….
